Going on a trip with a group is a wonderful way to travel. You’ll always have someone to explore with, you get to see things as a group you might not get to on your own, it’s safer to travel in numbers, and each person in the group will bring a different perspective to the experience. For these reasons alone, the idea of hosting a group trip often comes up as a good idea for families, friends, and even companies looking to host retreats.

If you decide to do a big trip as a group however, it’s no secret that it can be a little overwhelming. This is especially true if you’re the one putting it together. With that in mind, here’s a step-by-step checklist you can use to take the stress out of hosting a group trip:

Step 1- Decide where you want to travel to, and when you want to go.

Your best bet will be to initially come up with three options for the vacation as well as three separate times to go on the vacation. This is one of the perks of being the group organizer. Because you are setting the whole thing in motion, you can pick places you want to go and times that you are available.

Step 2- Consider the people you want on your group trip.

Will this group getaway be for business or pleasure? If it’s pleasure only, will this event limited to friends, family or a combination of the two? Or is this more about inviting people that you have common interests with, such as a networking/hobby/wine club/golf trip?

What makes New Zealand so popular to visit by way of rail or road trip? Perhaps it’s the fact that while riding along in a train on a railway or on the road in your own vehicle you can view the spectacular scenery. Or maybe it’s the fact that you’ll see more of the countryside because you’ll be constantly moving from place to place. Visiting this destination and touring it in this fashion is certainly something you’ll never forget.

By Rail

When touring by rail, you have several options for where you’ll visit. Just three of the options available to you include:

  1. Northern Explorer: This is the longest running passenger service between Auckland and Wellington. You’ll enjoy views of fertile farmland, volcanic peaks, and the sparkling waters of the Kapiti coast.
  2. TranzAlpine: This route is considered one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys, and will take you 139 miles through 16 tunnels and viaducts from Christchurch to Greymouth and back.
  3. Coastal Pacific: This rail journey will take you up the Kaikoura Coastline, which are famous for views of the marine mammals, and whale watching. Bring your camera and a zoom lens for awesome shots of dolphins, seals and penguins.

Scotland’s capital lives and breathes history and Edinburgh doesn’t disappoint. We at Ingenious Travel recently visited this beautiful country and spent four active and fun-filled in this extraordinary city. A word to the wise, be sure to pack your walking shoes, the city is quite hilly.

Here are five things we recommend as a must see/do while in Edinburgh:

  1. Edinburgh Castle

This famous castle sits upon Castle Rock, an extinct volcano, and provides some of the best views of this historic city. Edinburgh Castle is famous for its Great Hall, the Half Moon Battery, the Crown Jewels, and the Stone of Destiny. However, the oldest and most important buildings housed here is Margaret’s Chapel, built in the 12th century. This chapel is a tiny gem and if your name is Margaret, you can get married there for free.

  1. The Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is The Queen’s official residence while in Scotland when she visits each July to conduct royal business. Here take the audio tour which will walk you through the palace’s history and its connection to Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. The palace stands at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile against the spectacular backdrop of Arthur’s Seat.

Located off the west coast of Scotland, is the Isle of Skye – the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides. This stunning destination features mountainous terrain, rocky slopes, and dramatic landscapes. With its rich history, exciting wildlife, impressive castles, and even Fairy Pools, it feels like a setting straight out of a story book. If you’re lucky enough to have Skye, Scotland on your travel itinerary, here are five things you might want to consider doing while you’re there:

  1. Take a dip in the Fairy Pools – Located in Glen Brittle there are deep blue pools in the river flowing with water from the Cullin that is crystal clear. You’ll trek there on foot, crossing rivers and steep terrain, but the crystal waters and backdrop of the mountains is nothing short of impressive.
  2. Explore the castles of Eilean Donan and Dunvegan – Eilean Donan Castle is considered to be the most romantic of all the Scottish castles. This famous castle is so striking, it even made an appearance in several Hollywood blockbusters including Entrapment, Highlander, and The World is Not Enough (one of the James Bond films). Dunvegan Castle was home to the 30th MacLeod Clan Chief. Stuck in its time, Dunvegan is where you can get a real feel for how things were done in the days of old. Additional castles to consider visiting include Armadale Castle, Castle Moil, and Duntulm Castle.

Girlfriends | Ingenious Travel

Going on a vacation with your girlfriends is about so much more than just having fun. It’s about escaping daily responsibilities. It’s about the uninterrupted conversations and just doing what makes you happy. It’s about bonding in a place away from home to create memories that will last you all a lifetime. It’s about sisterhood! Planning a getaway with your girlfriends can be as simple or as extravagant as you want. Should you be thinking about going away with your closest besties, here are some tips that may help you along the way:

Begin by picking a destination: You all must agree on a place to go. You can research the most famous destinations online, or you can get together and simply discuss where you all would like to go. Make a case for your choice destination and if you can’t agree on the exact destination, at least discuss the elements you want out of the trip. Now might also be a good time to get your travel agent at Ingenious Travel involved because we might have an idea for you that fits your time, budget and meets all of your needs.

Book flights that arrive at the same time, but if possible book the same flight: In the event you’ll each be traveling from different places, at least try to arrive around the same time so you can share transportation to your hotel. Call us to coordinate your travel times and we can either get you all on the same flight if you’re traveling together, or if you’re traveling separately we can arrange those accommodations.

Exotic Travevl | Ingenious TravelAn exotic vacation means different things to different people. For some, it means a trip to a hot destination like Tahiti or the Seychelles. For others, it’s an adventure trip with nonstop thrills like sky diving and riding an ATV off the coast of Maui. An exotic vacation may entail lots of different and exciting activities that you would not have the chance to enjoy otherwise, but regardless of what you’re doing and where you’re going there are definitely some things you can do to make your exotic travel experience an easier one.

First and foremost, hire Ingenious Travel! When you hire a travel agent to handle all of your travel needs, your trip instantly becomes much more exciting and easier to plan because all of the legwork is handled for you! We can come up with an itinerary that suits your needs perfectly, and we can help you stay within your budget.

Second, figure out what exotic means to you. Sometimes answering the question of what the best places and activities of a given destination can prove difficult, and varies from person to person. One person might want to climb scenic peaks by morning, look for sea turtle eggs on the beach at lunch and go on a zip line tour in the afternoon. This may be great for them, but what if you would prefer something not quite so strenuous or perhaps a little cheaper? To know your trip goals ahead of time and the goals of your travel companions will better help you design the perfect trip.

Don’t go in blindly. By this I mean don’t just choose a destination based on a brochure. Ask us, your travel agents about the areas you are considering. We can tell you about guided tours, historic sites, and about areas that you otherwise would not have a chance to see and experience.
