Did you know that Beethoven’s 250th birthday is in 2020? The classical artist spent most of his life in Vienna, and as a result, the capital of Austria has many plans underway to celebrate him. While his birthday is actually in December, and the largest of celebrations will happen then, you can enjoy concerts and festivals in his honor all year long. One of the best ways to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday in Vienna is with a river cruise.

A River Cruise in 2020 is a Classical Music Lovers Dream

Some of the river cruise lines that sail the Danube and Rhine rivers have created itineraries to commemorate and enjoy the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. One such cruise is the Amadeus cruise line which will host a special Rhine River cruise October 27 through November 3, 2020. Their itinerary features private concerts at stunning landmarks, as well as an exclusive concert onboard the ship.

Another cruise the Amadeus line will host is along the Danube River, and it celebrates not just Beethoven, but all classical music. This cruise sails from October 29 through November 5, 2020. Like the Rhine River cruise, it promises private and exclusive concerts on and off the ship as well.

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Salzburg Festival

Not only is 2020 all about Beethoven, it’s also the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival in Vienna. From July 18 through August 2020 there will be dozens of performances of drama, opera, concerts, and more.

And, if you can’t make it on one of the cruises, you’ll be happy to know that there are Beethoven concerts planned for the time of the Salzburg Festival as well. Two museums will be hosting Beethoven exhibits in Vienna too. Vienna’s Haus der Musik will host their Beethoven exhibit from April through September 2020 and Vienna’s Art History Museum will be hosted from March through September 2020.

These events give you ample time to enjoy both the Salzburg Festival and the Beethoven exhibits, and even have time to take in a Beethoven concert too! Bottom line – The year 2020 will be filled with a plethora of classical music celebrations!
