Located off the west coast of Scotland, is the Isle of Skye – the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides. This stunning destination features mountainous terrain, rocky slopes, and dramatic landscapes. With its rich history, exciting wildlife, impressive castles, and even Fairy Pools, it feels like a setting straight out of a story book. If you’re lucky enough to have Skye, Scotland on your travel itinerary, here are five things you might want to consider doing while you’re there:
- Take a dip in the Fairy Pools – Located in Glen Brittle there are deep blue pools in the river flowing with water from the Cullin that is crystal clear. You’ll trek there on foot, crossing rivers and steep terrain, but the crystal waters and backdrop of the mountains is nothing short of impressive.
- Explore the castles of Eilean Donan and Dunvegan – Eilean Donan Castle is considered to be the most romantic of all the Scottish castles. This famous castle is so striking, it even made an appearance in several Hollywood blockbusters including Entrapment, Highlander, and The World is Not Enough (one of the James Bond films). Dunvegan Castle was home to the 30th MacLeod Clan Chief. Stuck in its time, Dunvegan is where you can get a real feel for how things were done in the days of old. Additional castles to consider visiting include Armadale Castle, Castle Moil, and Duntulm Castle.
