KENYA is the birthplace of the safari experience, and the movie “Out of Africa” can lay claim to triggering North America’s interest in East Africa safaris. We are also drawn to the Great Migration of wildebeest seen on National Geographic documentaries with cunning carnivores in hot pursuit. Here are things to experience when visiting Kenya.
Nairobi, a modern African City
Travelers to Kenya are often pleasantly surprised when they realize how modern Nairobi really is. A thoroughfare for safari adventurers, be sure to stay a few days Nairobi, which has transformed into a buzzing city. Step back in time to visit natural museums, explore the Coffee Garden and Cottages where Karen Blixen (author of ‘Out of Africa’) lived, dine in upmarket restaurants, and dance to African reggae music in hip bars.
Maasai Mara Narional Park
Maasai Mara, famous for the migrations of animals during the Wet Season beckons the curious African traveler and delivers with incredible visions of lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and hippos – all year round! The Great Migration of wildebeest, topi, zebra and more from the Serengeti every year occurs from July to October. It is beyond fascinating to watch crocodiles and zebra battle for survival in their natural habitat.
See the Big Five
All members of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, African elephant, cape buffalo, and black rhinoceros) are found in the Maasai Mara. Tick that off the bucket list and enjoy the company of other Safari enthusiasts as you travel in safety equipped jeeps with experienced local guides. The only traffic you will encounter are some curious giraffes, who are always eager to see who passing through their neighborhood.
